FAQ

Here are some of the most common questions about LIT1st from parents:

How do I get my child signed up for the LIT1st Home School Enrichment Program?

You may fill out the contact form and we will contact you usually within 2 business days.

Can my child be enrolled in another Home School Enrichment program and LIT1st at the same time?

If your child is enrolled in another Home School Enrichment program and LIT1st concurrently, and the other entity is funded by a school district or a charter school, you may still enroll in LIT1st, but you would be required to pay tutition. That cost will be lower than the average rate of using a private Reading Therapist, and is to be determined.

However, if your child is enrolled in a private school or another HSE (Home School Enrichment program) which does not receive funding, you would qualify for free tuition through LIT1st.

My child attends a public school (or charter school) but shows signs of dyslexia. Can I get him/her into your LIT1st Program?

Yes! We are planning on providing classes after school for those students who attend a public school, or charter school, but on a reduced fee basis. The cost will be $150 per week, which includes 4 class sessions, Monday through Thursday, for one hour and 15 minutes each session. The groups will be grouped in a similar way as our home schooled students. Please fill out the contact form and let us know your child’s school situation.

I have questions which are not yet covered on your website. May I email someone or speak to a staff member on the phone?

Yes, of course. First fill out the contact form and someone will get back to you. Otherwise, please feel free to email us at: [email protected] (Wendy Gamboa), or [email protected] (Holly Van Wieren).

What days of the week and times of the day are the LIT1st classes being offered for the 2023-2024 school year?

Currently, we plan to offer classes Monday-Thursday. Students are expected to attend all four days each week. Class times will be determined by each individual Reading Therapist. Each class will be 1 hour and 15 minutes per session.

What is the yearly calendar for LIT1st for 2-23-2024?

Each individual Reading Therapist will determine their own yearly schedule. Classes will begin as early as August 1 and no later than September 2023.

Is there homework for my child in the LIT1st HSE Program?

Yes, there will be required homework for each class session. It is essential for students to complete their homework before the next class. The homework generally will not take more than about 10-15 minutes.

What are the parent expectations as far as homework?

Parents are expected to sit with their child while the student is completing his/her homework. When parents correct reading errors immediately, the child will not be repeatedly reading words incorrectly.
